Bacchus Wine Closures Ltd was founded to exploit a new breakthrough in the fight against cork taints and premature oxidation.
The idea of putting barriers onto natural corks to reduce the passage of taints and oxygen into wine from the cork has been known for many decades.
It has only been with the development of new materials that a really effective solution has become available. TCA contamination of corks from quality cork producers has fallen to less than 1 ppt, however random oxidation remains a problem.
Bacchus have developed and patented the Bacchus Barrier ™ in conjunction with major wineries and cork producers around the world. We have also perfected the machinery for automatically applying it to corks in volume production.
Recent AWRI trials show that Bacchus Barrier ™ dramatically enhances the performance of lower grade corks so that they outperform screwcaps and synthetic corks
Alvaro Coelho and Irmaos SA (ACI), the second largest producer of corks in the world, is the first major company to license the Bacchus Barrier™ technology. ACI's first product using Bacchus Barrier™ is nanocork™. ACI have offices in every important wine producing country.
