What is the Bacchus Barrier?
The Bacchus Barrier™ is a specially-developed film which substantially reduces the migration of cork taints and oxygen into wine.
The Bacchus Barrier™ film is bonded to the cork ends using a strong reactive hot melt polymer layer. Subsequent cross linking in this layer prevents the film from detaching in contact with moisture. The Bacchus Barrier™ is applied by automated machinery, providing a tough, transparent and highly flexible coating
Bacchus Barrier™ provides important reductions in the incidence of taints, while eliminating flavour modification and premature oxdation. Because the film is slightly permeable to oxygen, no reductive oxidation tastes occur.
Bacchus Barrier™ flexes as the cork flexes during insertion. The Bacchus Barrier™ strengthens the ends of the corks and improves the sealing of the cork against the bottle sides.

that whilst nanocork™ was fresh, intense and fruity, the wines sealed by the reference screw cap and synthetic closures were characterised by a higher OD 420, honey, esters and oxidation.
